Essay: "Coming Back"by Charlie Rodriguez
Coming back...is something I never want to do! This is something I can live without, although I know it's not always an individual's fault but it can be prevented. I am going to do all I can do to prevent it from happening. There is no need to come back; coming back defies all that I've done to make myself better. It doesn't just go for me; we all know these Correctional Officers are always going to have a job. You, me, we don't have to be the ones that makes them responsible for us. We're adults; we can be responsible for ourselves. Take the responsibility that we ourselves have, especially for these of us with children.
Coming back can be so much more damaging to us that we even know. To some it could be we have to spend the rest of our lives in here. You complain now, imagine knowing you are going to have to wake up to these four walls every day, for the rest of your life. So what's 'coming back' really mean to you my friends? There is no future in a fantasy life, you, me; some of us learned that the hard way which is why we're in Seg. For these of you who believe you can do that, then 'coming back' is what you are going to do. |
