Essay: "Digging Deeper"by Michael J. McKinney And I must say, the reason I have so much love for the essay program that I write these essays for is because you all are always coming up with some very great essay topics for us to write about. And this month's topic about digging deep is something I can really relate to, because I have been through a lot. And my life has been messed up for so many years. I have been locked up in prison, and locked down in a one man cell for so many years, because I had no kind of direction for my life. At first I did not know what I had to do to change the way I was living, because I was only fighting against myself and the ones who loved me and wanted to see me do better. And while being locked down in a one man cell all by myself gave me so much time to think about so many things. Because for so long I had been searching outside of myself, for all the answers as how to be a better person and to live by the truth. And it took me years to make the decision that I was going to start digging deep and start struggling deep within myself so I could learn some real knowledge about myself and how to face reality for what it was and not for what I wanted it to be. And digging deep within had started helping me to gain some control over my life. And I read about the prophets who faced many hardships, but they never gave up hope because digging deep within themselves helped them to carry on with their struggle. And I must face my difficulties in the same spirit. And reading about men like Mahatma Gandhi and Badshah Khan who was a man to match his mountains, I feel the need to dig deep within myself and do some real soul searching.
