Essay: "Mind Games"by Joseph Alvin Parrish
Hello to all my theme writing fans. I come before you tonight to give you my special view about Mind Games. Please bear with me as I do the best I can to tell you about mind games from my perspective. Let me see, where do I start? Okay, so first of all, please be aware that I am now currently residing, or should I say, incarcerated in a state penitentiary. I've been here now for a total time of four years. My short way discharge date is in five months, and hopefully I will be released back out into society. I am going to miss you guys, reading your theme-writing articles. I'm not sure if the staff of Durland Alternatives Library will allow me to still actively be a part of the theme-writing while living on the outside community, but really that's not what this is about is it? Guess what? I have one stamp available that I can use to mail my theme-writing essay off. I missed last month's article, mind games, and so I have to include two in one, Mind Games, and Favorite Trip. And so I guess you're now saying that I am procrastinating? In the beginning I asked you to bear with me and the reason being that I was not sure how to proceed telling you about mind games, but hold on okay, something is coming to me. Tell me what do you know about mind games? Do you play mind games? Have mind games ever been played on you? Did I hear a yes, if so, when? Do you care to tell me about it? And this better be good too. Don't put me to sleep with your old tired story. Tell me something good. Wait a minute, were you the one playing the mind games on someone, or was it the other way around? Hold on, how long have you been in prison> what are you in there for, what vile deed did you commit? Did you do it, or are you one of those innocent ones? If you've been locked up for a long time then you should be expecting to be released soon. Surely, the parole board panel will be lenient and grant you parole, after all you have been on lock without a key for a very long time. Have you talked to any parole commissioners lately? What did they tell you? Did they say that they were going to vote for you? Do you have a shortway discharge date? When do you longway discharge? Wait a minute, how can you expect to be released; after all, you've been a bad boy. You've already had many opportunities to get out. How many times have you been up for parole, interviewed, and shut down? Come on man, look at your past criminal history, you were involved in organized crime, you took someone's life, you are a repeat offender. You haven't changed and you NEVER will change, so why should we let you go? Give me one good reason. Just look at you. Yea that snitch gave you up; he informed us that you were dealing in drugs and cigarettes. And you that that he was cool when all the time he was ratting you out. So are you with me so far. Hold on okay, I'm still going to share mind games with you. Mind games, that's really awful isn't it. Do you think the parole board panel has been playing mind games with you? If so, what are you going to do about it? That's what I thought, nothing. But anyway, what can you do? I wonder if you have a kind word for those people. Hey, this guy told me that he was going to see if he could talk you into buying him a bag of coffee, and a bag of Fritos, and a couple of ramen noodle soups from the prison store(commissary). He says that you're his good ole buddy pal and he's pretty sure that he can count on you. He doesn't know when, if ever, he's going to get some money. I guess you've noticed, he's been selling his lunch and dinner trays for the best offer. Later on, just take notice; he'll strike up a conversation with you if not in the day room he will holler at you inside your prison cell. Hey what's going on man, do you think you will be able to spare me a shot of coffee? I'll get you on the rebound! I wrote my family but so far no one has responded. Give him that first shot of coffee and I guarantee you he will keep coming back. Pretty soon you're cussing him out. It's coming to me now are you ready to hear about mind games. Psyche! |
