Essay: "Sources of Strength"

by Fernando Diaz
When I think of sources of strength, one of the main sources that furnishes me with strength is the unconditional love of my family. I think that the love of my family provides me with everything that I need to maintain my sanity while incarcerated. It's the love, support and emotional strength that gives me the strength to makeup every for everything in this place. A lot of people don't realize that things that we behind these walls have to go through. Many think that it's all fun and games. But living in prison one must have the mental strength to deal with the everyday like taking place in here. So when I ponder the sources of strength, my most important source of strength has to be my family in general. Without my family's strength, my life wouldn't be as solid. Another thing that gives me strength is utilizing my time productively in how I do my time. As long as I stay busy, I can also stay strong, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

I comprehend that there are people who don't have family in here. It's a lot harder for them to stay focused on doing their time. But I do believe that as long as they remain optimistic, they can succeed with their goals in life. Strength can come from a lot of things, but it's mostly derived from our families that never let us down. The ones we tend to hurt the most are the only ones that keep us going and they never fail us.
