Essay: "Breakdown"

Single Cell Breakdown

Men are social animals, some more so than others. Those that are not self-contained can find themselves destroyed by solitary life. Those that survive are forever changed.

Time alone can lead to insights into your personality and maybe even a deeper understanding of who and why you are. It can also cause any cracks in a person's psyche to widen and do irreparable damage. There's no way to know until you face the fire and see what happens. I was one of the lucky ones and found I liked myself and had a strong foundation to work with. Not all fare so well.

Suicide rates, high in prison anyways, rise exponentially when men are held in ad-seg conditions. The tighter the security the more likely it is to crack them.

My advice for each of you is very simple. Become the willow and bend before the winds, be the water not the rock, for that which is unwilling to yield will break and none are immune. It's up to each of you how you choose to survive, but the single cell break-down is waiting and takes the strong as well as the weak. Don't let it take you.
