Essay: "Bullies"

by Paul Tovar
I don't think there is not one person who has ran into a bully. More than likely one meets a bully during the growing up years in elementary school. I myself ran into such a bully. I can recall being so terrorized that I turned the wheels around. Let me share an experience I had once. I was in the third grade and in a school, which had the grades of kindergarten thru 5th grade. So being in the 3rd grade in sort of likes the middle, I was always racing at recess. It was a game we played, and I was fast and nobody could beat me. And I had two buddies who also were 3rd graders that hung out with me during recess. Well this 5th grader had it in for me cause he couldn't beat me, plus he claimed my older brother in Jr. High was dating his sister and he didn't like it. This 5th grader had two 3rd graders that kicked it with him as well. One day these 3 guys were coming at us (3) 3rd graders. The word was out. And I told my buddies who were just as scared as I was that soon as they came near us, for us to just pull off our belts and start swearing. So all three of us unbuckled out belts and had our hands on our belts ready to pull them off and begin out attack for our lives. The 5th grader and his two associates got to us and I pulled my belt off and began to hit all of them. I was in a fight for my life. What I realized was it was only me doing the swinging. My buddies took off rather than complete our plan and left me all alone. The bully and his other tormentors got a whipping that they rightly deserved. While I was crying and seining a teacher came and grabbed me. I was taken to he principle's office and later found out that I hit not only the 3 bullies but also all the kids around me. I was sent home after my mother came to get me and I got a good whipping at home. I'll never forget that day. The bully never messed with me again. HA! Today it's basically the same. There's always someone who feels they can bully someone who looks to be weaker. But don't let appearance fool you. Dynamite comes in small packages. And what comes around goes around. And most of all, if you live by the gun you die by the gun. What a thought. Live and learn.
