Essay: "Friendship"

by W.,Willie

Friend: a person whom one knows well and is fond of; an ally supporter or sympathizer Friendship: the state of being friends

As I understand it my friend is some that I like being with, going places. If my friend is in trouble I do what I can to help. If I had to I'd give that person my last dollar knowing that he needed it. Now there is a thin line between friendship and being devoted to someone or something. I won't die for a friend but I die for my children. Some of us get friendship and being devoted mixed up. I'll stand my ground for my beliefs but when my friend is wrong he stands by himself. I'm a person who has more associates than friends so friendship with me is more of getting together and having fun with people you know and like. I've had associates that when it comes down to a fight we stand back to back. I don't do anything to violate the trust we have for each other but that would be a part of a friendship as well. My wife and I were friends before we became lovers and that made for a very strong relationship between us. After being apart fifteen years, my daughter and I are the best of friends now. Friendship is something that's shown not talked about. When you say a person is a friend you show by helping when there is a need. From helping to pay a bill to being someone to talk to when no one else is there now that's friendship.
