Essay: "My Favorite Place"

by David Goza
During my stint in the U.S. army, I have managed to travel in Germany, Austria, and quite a few of the states. Each of these places had many beautiful and peaceful places, but none can compare to the place my mine can conjure up.

Where I go when the real world wears me down starts with a pristine forest in full bloom. The animals come u to you to check you out because they have never seen a human before. After communing with them for a while, I continue on to a large lake that has never known pollution, and is so clear, you can see all the way to the bottom.

A mountain looms in the background just begging for exploration. Wandering around the mountain, you come upon a cave. In the cave, there are natural figures allowing light to come in, illuminating myriad stalactites and stalagmites of different colors and sizes. Underground lakes are filled with diverse fish who have never seen daylight. The cave system goes for miles, unsullied by human vandalism.

Once you come out of the cave, you can climb the mountain to the very top. Looking out, you can see for miles over forests and streams. Looking down, you see eagles coasting around majestically. As far as the eye can see, there is just nature in all its virgin beauty. There are no cities or villages, no roads or factories, and definitely no prisons.

This place does not exist in the real world, but it is where I go more and more often as the years go by.
