Essay: "Fresh Air"

by David Snyder
I had such faith and hope in Governor Spitzer.

I believe all he claimed.

I saw an over decade needed fresh air.

He started great and true to his word.

Why I let myself think he would be different shows how much of a fool I am. He's like everyone before him and will come after.

In the "justice" and "correctional" system fresh air is a myth.

Governor Spitzer, where are the restored education programs? Cut in employee overtime? More parole and CR? Cut in money waste? Better health care? Leniency on 1st time offenders? Maximum ten year sentence on 1st time offenders? Cleaning house of judges and courts?

What did we get so Far?

You and Bruno at war. Troopergate. Political misuse of state property. Your approval rating taking a dive. On and on. Same old bullshit.

Hell yes I'm angry.

Thank you, Governor Spitzer, for the "fresh air" when I'm released; thank you for the "fresh air" of registry, penalties, denials left and right, a job at Burger King, a $30 "supervision fee" on parole or CR, the status of pariah, the inability of living in a community, the shadow, the dirty looks, my life on the internet or accessible by anyone who wants it, lack of any privacy, movements restricted, subject to search any time under any reason, curfew, etc, etc, etc.

Thank you sooooooo much for the "fresh air."

Thank you for the bulls-eye on my head.

Thank you for the shadows life of "fresh air."

Thank you for the "fresh air" of release into a life equal to prison only without the stone walls.

Thank you for the "fresh air" of not wanting to die, cut my wrists or throat, jumping off a bridge or hanging myself.

Well, I salute you, Governor.

I salute you with a finger and my hate, my disgust, my animosity. May your "fresh air" live long. Enjoy your fruits and God forgive you for lying to gain office.

Thanks for the "fresh air"
