Essay: "God"

by Robert Moser
Eyes to See God

With the extensive amount of free-time I have, much of it has been spent wondering about God... Who is God? What is God? Where is God and why is He? I have unlimited questions, as we all do.

I am the type of person who likes to see to believe, which makes the Christians' or anyone else's "faith" commitment difficult to accept.

For so long I've looked at "reality" and here's what I saw and why it's easy to be confused. People have been fighting and killing each other in the name of their God since the start of time. We live in a country that has a pledge (had a pledge) where one verse said "under one God" even though this country doesn't even pray to the same God. The word "God" is on money.

Yet, babies die for no reason; parts of our cities are so dangerous no one can walk or drive them safely; television promotes destructives that oppose God; and so on. Therefore, unless we're Satanists, this world is everything that God isn't. No wonder it is hard and confusing finding "faith."

And here is the saddest part: one of the most awesome keys to spiritual awareness is quickly being destroyed: Nature and our planet. It's through nature that I found God. It's where people have connected with God since the beginning of time. It's through Nature that I see God more for what He is- God is a Creator. Through His creations, much can be found.

An elderly woman watering her flower bed enjoys peace and contentment from her bond with nature~ ask her! And if you don't ask her, then on a day when you're pissed, sad or just feeling disconnected, take a walk through the woods. Listen and observe surroundings and by the time you exit the woods, all those feelings should have gone away. This world is God and so are we. Religions help some people; they also make it a complex and confusing mess for others. Religions twist context and cause spiritual damage. Then again, God isn't a religion. People just want to worship. Now, I don't suggest you worship a tree, the sun nor the moon. I don't think those things would notice or even care for worship. However, I'm not ashamed to say that there's been several times where little sparrows have landed on my window and I've asked them to deliver messages to God and have felt natural doing so (of course if the guards here me talking to the birds I will most likely end up on psych meds!) My point is that I don't know what's the right way or wrong way to believe in God for others, nor do I know if God is even right for them. For me, the closest thing to a spiritual connection with our Creator has always been nature. Even as I write this, I'm glancing out the window.

There aren't any sparrows around, but there is a big blue Texas sky to look at and as I do, I thank God for giving me eyes to see out because without them I may not have even saw God.
