Essay: "Loyalty"

To me, loyalty is dedication to someone or something no matter what. A person who has someone they're loyal to will not waver nor turn their back on him or her. Someone who's there unconditionally and wouldn't question or even think twice about what he or she is asked to do. I would say that loyalty is like family, but I'm not. Family is not always there for you, or a person when needed. Loyalty can't be given but earned. Loyalty is like a shadow in a way. When the heat is on, your loyal companion will be there by your side, facing that heat with you no matter what the odds are. The only thing that person knows is, if you fall down in the battle or war you can rest to sure that he or she will be there to avenge your death, or get even. But there's not too much loyalty among people these days. If I was to give my personal opinion on the ratio of loyalty, I would say it's 1 out of 10. Meaning, no snitching when the heat is on you when you didn't nothing but know who did. Taking a bullet or shank for that person. Loyalty is like that special bond, brotherhood/sisterhood. It's no greater or lesser person. It's about 50-50. What's mine is yours, and what's yours is mine. Loyalty, the few, the proud, the unconditional.
