Essay: "Music"

by Jonathan Hooper
Now, before I begin I'd like to say that as of today after 9 months on restriction I've finally gotten off! Yeah, I'm a trouble maker if I'm not writing to students, I'm making trouble. It passes the time moving on, and music, if you're one with a deep mind, then you're able to look within your mind and find mysterious things existing beneath the shadows of the conscious state. Me, I feel that it's safe to say that I have a subconscious mind. But it is just easy to just sit with pen and paper and pour out the ether from the dark well of my head. So music is the key that unlocks the hatch to my inner dungeon. I like all things morbid and dark. It suits my nocturnal habit. But I try not to sound like the madman in F. Nietzsche's "God is Dead." The Prints of my subconscious mind are found in my poetry. It sounds conceited but I amaze myself with the filth that I create. I have to read it four or five times just to realize that I wrote it. Music, specifically like Type-O Negative, Cradle of Filth, Slayerm, Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails. Also, Tool, and a Perfect Circle are what send me off into that dead sick world in my head. It's a mystery how music is with the harmony of mans soul and mind. Inspiration is not of its own, other things inspire us. We can't close our eyes and find peace, so thoughts fill our heads and its deep thoughts that pull us to inspiration. Like the organ hears something, dark, and morbid about it, that when I hear it, I want to write dark poetry. I assume since the organ is associated with death. At the funeral home here you'll find it. It's not the category of music, a specific type, but it's the sound. When we hear it, if it's in tune with the souls harmony then we listen. But I prefer heavy metal, techno, Goth, and Classical symphony. Also sounds of nature, musical harmony also is not destitute of the gifts of the stars, for it is a most powerful imaginer of all things. It wonderfully allures the celestial influence and changes the affections, intentions, gestures, motions, actions and dispositions of all the listeners and quietly pictures them in its own properties, as to the gladness, lamentations, to boldness, or rest, and the like. So rather than hearing the sounds of music listen and go with the tunes that come to mind and however else it may move you. Because to in good times and bad, it keeps the past alive while it kills worries and regrets.
