Pride vs. Parole

If you have any ounce of pride you're not very likely to make parole. Prison tends to try and stomp the pride out of you so you can be satisfied with a lifetime of eating crow dished out by small, petty minds. Parole board members, being selected from the ranks of elite, arrogant government and merchant classes, abhor pride in the masses of supplicants that they are paid so richly to see. People who possess pride find it difficult to grovel. Parole board members tend to think that persons with pride are unremorseful and will re-offend. Also they think that persons who will grovel to escape onerous prison terms are too frightened to commit crime.

So, the formula for parole: ditch your pride and practice your groveling techniques.
