Essay: "Pride"Pride, I believe, is the real downfall of many great men. It has been said that the honor for the downfall of man is reserved for women. I'm sure the saying was created by some misogynist. I prefer to believe women are very strong, not to mention they give birth, too. It is men's pride that causes them strife. A man (some) sees the power inherent in women and they let their pride think for them, the result is some sort of abuse. This woman cannot be above the man; the man's pride won't allow this to occur. I speak for myself when I say that my ex wife was awesome. We had similar problems in the family area, and our defective outlooks on love. I know now one of the reasons I emotionally and mentally abused my wife--to make myself feel better. I used to put up a façade that I liked myself, but in reality I despised who I was. This caused me to mistreat my wife. Pride also affected me in other ways throughout my life. I was a nationally ranked distance runner, but due to some misunderstandings between my coach and me, my running career was ended. My coach was right and I was wrong in this incident, but my prideful nature wouldn't let me submit to him. Pride has also resulted in quite a few physical altercations, not only in prison but on the outside, also. I have been working on my pride issue during my incarceration. Although I have not completely rid myself of pride, I have reduced it to almost nothing. I am in no way an authority on the psyche or too much of anything else, but I challenge you all to look at your level of pride. If it is a problem for you, attempt to fix it. Don't let your pride prevent you of bettering yourself. |
