Essay: "Second Chance"by Rey Sanchez
Which positive or negative event was my second chance? Could it have been the time I moved to California with my father, due to the fact that I was a 13 year old drug addict? Maybe the time I was able to walk away after having a gun put to my head? Or the time I was shot at but not hit? There were also a number of times when I advanced in the work place to the point of managing a work crew or just training the new guys.
I'm not coming back to prison. Drugs hold no chance of a normal life. I'm tired of that life and now that I'm going to change, I'm wondering if this will be my 2nd chance or is it my 5th? Whatever the case may be, it won't escape me this time. Be it your 2nd or 5th chance, grab it and don't let go because we're not all as lucky as the next person... |
