Essay: "Favorite Trip"by Jonathan Hooper
I just received my copy of the two themes on "Nothing to Lose" and "Too Close for Comfort." Before I read it in its entirety, I hadn't the intention to write for this month's theme. Because I just can't recall a "favorite trip." Well that's what I was thinking first. But after reading everyone's submissions I just felt the desire to write. I love to read Mr. D. Harris's. He's an excellent writer. I always show a friend or two the copy of the themes and I point them to Mr. Harris's as well as mine. I also like to read Mr. Parrish's since I know him. And I wonder, what impression do I give people? Cause its one thing to write a piece and read it. But it's another to see it printed out with the others. It's odd. We all know each other in the sense of what it's like ho be in prison no matter how many miles apart we all are from each other. We're writers! We're creative and intelligent. And we're all dreamers. I respect everyone's submission, despite the fact that I have different views on the chains of religion, which some like to express. What remains is that we've reached with in ourselves and pulled out a piece or mind, a bit of emotion, and some intellect. That's what we have in common. Now we all know we have our own "inmate rules and morals." From race all the way to what you're in for. So, what if we were all released at the same time? And D.A.L. had a big party and we were all invited, how would we respond to each other? Knowing that amongst each other, we have looked into the minds and hearts of every one of us. Would we forget our instilled morals of incarceration, and all be friends? I just want to say I'm a fan of everyone's submission and it would be an awesome trip to all get together to share our life's philosophies. I mean all of us, from Dr. Gary and his crew to us program participators. One nig ex-prisoner bash. Yeah, wouldn't that scare the pigs? I'll be honest all you'd get out of my mind is occult thought. Beware, hahaha! But I can't say that that would be my "favorite trip" but it would be awesome to do that. My favorite trip would be to go see my ex-girlfriend to say, "Look at me now." That's all. Our lives are our favorite trip, at least mine is. If I may quote something Ms. C. Price said, "Drink life savagely and die with a smile!" I like that. Keep up the good work. I can't wait to see the poetry anthology. \ |
