Essay: "Neighbors"by Joseph Alvin Parrish
A neighbor can have good virtues and bad virtues. Here in prison, in the vicinity that I live in, I have a lot of different neighbors. All of my 64 neighbors display on a daily basis different personalities, different mindsets and virtues. Here imprison I strive on a daily basis to live at peace with my neighbor. Failure to do so can result in disciplinary measures for me and for them.
As I am sure you already know all of us were sent here to prison for doing wrong. And now that we're neighbors, our responsibility should be to live in peace with one another and strive to find more sensible ways of understanding one another. It makes no difference whether you're rich of you're poor, there should not be shown favoritism. Neighbors should respect one another. Having or not having money should not be the standard that we use to judge who we will or not respect. After all, I believe that nothing happens by chance. As neighbors we must look to God and depend on him in all our relationships to give us a willing heart so that we may be able to work out all our differences. In closing, remember this foremost as neighbors, we must strive to love one another in thought, word, and deed. |
