Essay: "God"

by Michael McKinney
God is Always Near

This is my second Theme Essay about God. I was compelled by the Spirit to write more thoughts about God. Here in prison, where I have been for almost 18 years, I hear so many dudes, who have life in prison and more time than they can stand to do, talk, putting man before God (i.e. Judges and lawyers). They put all their faith and trust in the judge and lawyer, hoping they can help get their time in here off. They file petitions with the courts and spend large amounts of money. Man made lawyers who only represent man made laws, not natural laws. God is the one who created natural and it does not change. I have learned the hard way that you can not put any man in the world before God. What man can not do, God can.

All the time here in prison, we convicts, live against God's laws. We talk against God's word and put faith, not in God, but in prison authority. But, as soon as soon as something life threatening happened to them the first person they call upon is God. Their first words are, "oh, my God, please help me." But, any other time they always look to man made authority for answers instead of going to the one and only God.

In this world, people live for the root of all evil, which is the dollar bill. Yet, even on that dollar bill it reads, "In God we trust." Now, I know God's love for us is a must and in him I will always trust. I have life in prison as many people do, but it's all good.

As long as God is with me, who can be against me? And I know with out the power of God, I would not be able to make it from moment to moment. Even though I have sinned many times in the past, my faith and trust in God are still growing by the day. I have a reason to love God with all my heart because he has kept me alive through it all. He blessed me in more ways than I can count. He is my God and He is always near. For Him, no man on earth will I fear. I want to serve God for the rest of my life.
